DIY: Make a paper boat that floats!

The theme of Poppet Post ‘s August box is ‘bath time fun’ and we thought you might enjoy creating a paper boat that floats for your little one.  Follow these simple, step-by-step instructions for hours of fun in the bathtub.

There’s quite a bit of folding involved so if you get stuck take a look at our handy YouTube tutorial or follow the step-by-step instructions below:

1. Take an A4 piece of paper – experiment with different types – wax paper, wrapping paper, cardboard. You want something sturdy but easy to fold.

2. Fold the page in half

3. Fold in half again

4. Open the fold to reveal a line down the center

5. With the open edge at the bottom, fold the corners inwards

6. Fold one bottom up

7. Turn the page over and repeat the previous step

8. Fold the little triangles over each corner

9. Open the shape up and fold it down in the other direction so that the corners that were at each end are now together

10. Fold the bottom corner of the diamond up making it now look like a square

11. Turn it over and do the same, making it now look like a triangle

12. Open it up from the bottom to make a square and flatten it

13. Take the two upper corners and pull them gently apart. And voilà, you have your boat!
